Jerry Zolten

His Story

Jerry Zolten is an educator, writer, musician, and producer in the genre of American roots music. A Professor at Penn State University, he is the author of Great God A’Mighty! The Dixie Hummingbirds/Celebrating the Rise of Soul Gospel Music [Oxford University Press, 2003/2022]. Zolten
also co-produced and appears in the award-winning documentary film How They Got Over/Black Gospel Quartets and the Road to Rock ‘n’ Roll currently streaming on HBO Max.  He also assisted in the production of and appears in the new Henry Louis Gates, Jr documentary Gospel premiering on
PBS in February 2024.
